How Long do I have to take minoxidil?
Minoxidil is a treatment for hair loss and not a cure. You need to take Minoxidil for as long as you want to continue to benefit from its use. If you stop taking Minoxidil, you will likely lose any hair you have gained within several months of stopping treatment.
I've noticed that my hair loss has increased. Is this typical?
Our hair loss treatment solution stimulates hair follicles to shift from the resting phase to the growth phase. Thus, it is not uncommon to see a temporary increase in shedding during the first 2 weeks using our product. This occurs in some people as the new hair pushes out the older hairs, when the hair follicle shifts into the growth phase. It is very much like losing baby teeth to make room for adult teeth. This increase in shedding is only temporary and should subside within a couple of weeks with continued treatment.
Can I blow dry my hair after using Minoxidil?
Yes. It’s fine to blow-dry your hair; however, we recommend using your dryer at a lower setting.
How long after putting Minoxidil on my scalp can I wash my hair or go swimming?
After applying Minoxidil to the scalp, it must remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours so that the medication may be absorbed into the scalp.
What are the possible side effects of which I should be aware of?
In the vast majority of patients there are no side effects. If side effects do occur, patients who have a known adverse reaction to minoxidil should avoid using any minoxidil products. Although rare, patients who are sensitive to minoxidil can experience a rapid heart rate, a drop in blood pressure and water retention. As a result, they may experience headaches, dizziness, chest pain and/or edema of the ankles. If such side effects occur, these patients should discontinue any formulas containing minoxidil.
What should I tell my pharmacist or doctor before using Minoxidil?
Tell your pharmacist or doctor about medical problems you have now or have had in the past. In particular, tell your pharmacist or doctor if:
You are taking any other medicines, including medicines you have bought without a prescription from a pharmacy or a supermarket or if you have any heart problems.
